alright so i’m going to answer a few questions i get about the blog here and pin the post.

why the pompompurin avatar?

this was the result of my best friend daring me to do it for a month. it has now been years! (i don’t know anything about sanrio btw, i just think he’s cute and yellow. he’s wearing a beret?? very cool 😎)

what kind of things do you normally post?

good question! i’d advise that you just start looking through my blog - i post all sorts! every post has some sort of positive aspect to it, be it a suggestion, a reminder, or spreading awareness and information about different things.

why can’t i message the blog?

i have no idea why i can no longer send and receive messages on this blog. i’ve tried to get it fixed but i have yet to receive any response to my emails. it’s been this way since 16 july 2021.

why is your ask box closed?

it’s probably one person sending inappropriate or weird asks and i’m giving them a subtle hint. that’s normally why it’s off. if my ask box isn’t open now, it will be soon :)

are you active on here?

i’m still around, every single day. i’m trying to take some casual breaks from tumblr though because (like all social media) it takes a toll, even when you follow only the best blogs and most wonderful people.

it’s literally impossible to follow every single suggestion here?

this blog has hundreds of suggestions and many are incompatible on some level, mostly because they’re applicable to different situations. the point of a suggestion is just that: it’s a suggestion and it exists to make you think, not a command for you to act upon without considering what’s being said. you don’t have to agree and you can disregard it if you don’t believe it’s right for you.

what should i do if i don’t agree with one of your suggestions?

scroll on. not every suggestion will be relevant to you and your life. that said, if you think a suggestion can be improved, reblog it with your (constructive) thoughts or suggest how i should amend it.

how can i message you?

my main is @outpostink and you’re welcome to message me there :)

it’s okay to feel worn out, hollow, emptied because of things that have happened, things you have done. work on filling yourself up again, with more love and hopefully more positive things this time. this time you’re a little wiser to life, a little more knowing of what’s what.

The EU is doing a big survey for LGBTQ people who live in the EU about how it is for them right now. That's the kind of survey that's used for official reports and for laws so it's super important that it has as many people taking it as possible. You can take it in every EU language. (You can change the language in the top right corner) Share it with your friends!

”The survey is looking for responses from anyone who considers themselves to be LGBTIQ, who is aged 15 years and above and lives in the European Union, Albania, Serbia or North Macedonia.

Your participation in the survey is very important. Your answers will be processed in an anonymous way ensuring that it will not be possible for anyone to identify your answers when the results are presented. You can read more in the privacy statement.”

Takes about 20min.

For years I would look at posts and questionnaires about neurodivergence that takes about being so focused on something that you forgot to eat and be like, "Couldn't be me. Being hungry is so uncomfortable! Your stomach is growling and cramping? How do you ignore that?"

Then someone informed me that neurotypical people have a whole bunch of "hungry" sensations before they get to that point.....

  ramshacklefey

Yeah, I don't get it either, but apparently this is a Whole Thing.... Like they somehow detect blood sugar dropping and go, "Ooh, time for lil snack!"

See also: there is a feeling of "oh, I need to pee" that happens before "fidgeting around in my seat to finish this thing before running to the bathroom"

  bubblesthemonsterartist

I read this and was like, "this can't be real" and then I looked for sources and like--

"This can be very harmful for neurodivergent people, as many neurodivergent people struggle to feel internal cues and bodily sensations, including hunger and fullness. An emphasis on “only eating when hungry” can result in neurodivergent people delaying eating until they are so hungry that they are shaky, highly irritable, or even on the verge of passing out. A focus on “stopping when full” may cause neurodivergent people to overthink every bite they take and scrutinize whether they are truly hungry or truly full.

To modify Intuitive Eating for neurodivergent people, it may be important to focus on eating enough and eating consistently throughout the day, rather than eating according to one’s hunger and fullness cues. Neurodivergent people may need more of a structured meal and snack schedule than neurotypical folks in recovery, as well as some guidelines around a minimum amount of food. This does not make their eating less intuitive or their recovery less real - it is an important way of honouring their body’s needs and unique ways of functioning."

... stomach cramping isn't the first sign of hunger? Is this why so many people eat more than one meal per day?

Kickstarting a book to end enshittification, because Amazon will not carry it

My next book is The Internet Con: How to Seize the Means of Computation: it’s a Big Tech disassembly manual that explains how to disenshittify the web and bring back the old good internet. The hardcover comes from Verso on Sept 5, but the audiobook comes from me — because Amazon refuses to sell my audio:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/doctorow/the-internet-con-how-to-seize-the-means-of-computation

Amazon owns Audible, the monopoly audiobook platform that controls >90% of the audio market. They require mandatory DRM for every book sold, locking those books forever to Amazon’s monopoly platform. If you break up with Amazon, you have to throw away your entire audiobook library.

That’s a hell of a lot of leverage to hand to any company, let alone a rapacious monopoly that ran a program targeting small publishers called “Project Gazelle,” where execs were ordered to attack indie publishers “the way a cheetah would pursue a sickly gazelle”:

DRM ON FUCKING BOOKS???

  magess

The publishing industry 100% loves DRM on books. Like the publishers themselves will often insist upon it because they think it stops piracy.

  angryraptor13

FUCK DRM!

Also, fantastic to hear Cory Doctorow’s got another book out! 😁

  angryraptor13

FYI, the Kickstarter includes your choice of audiobook, ebook, and/or hardcover copy of the new book!

  fictionyoubelieve

You can buy DRM-free ebooks from ebooks.com. I don’t know anything about their ethics or how big a cut they take (feel free to milkshake duck them for me), but I have bought books from them just to avoid supporting Amazon and ebook DRM.

  billie-book

And audiobooks purchased through Libro.fm are also DRM free and a portion of the sale supports indie bookstores.

  datashade

You can get a monthly subscription on Libro.fm, paying $15/mo for ebook credits that never expire, and sometimes they have sales on top of that - I got all the Murderbot Diaries novellas for like $8 each.

Libro.fm takes their anti-DRM so seriously that they won’t sell books where the publisher requires it. They just put a notice on the page that the publisher’s policies conflict with their own.

They are 👍❤️
